Common sense of the use of soldering tips

1. Before welding

Wet the sponge first and then squeeze out excess water. Only in this way can you make the iron head get the cleaning effect. If you use a non-moist cleaning sponge, it will damage the iron head and lead to no tin.

2. Welding work

The following welding sequence will protect the soldering tip and reduce the oxidation rate.

3. After welding

The new electric iron is dipped in fresh solder coated on the iron head before use. After connecting the power supply, the color of the iron head will change, which proves that the iron is heated (the temperature is adjusted to 250℃), and then the solder wire is placed on the tip of the iron and coated with tin, so that the iron is not easy to be oxidized. In use, the iron head should be kept clean, and ensure that there is always solder on the tip of the iron. (If non-temperature-controlled welding iron is used, first cut off the power supply and let the temperature of the iron head slightly lower before tinning.)

4. Precautions

a. Weld at a low temperature

High temperature will accelerate the oxidation of the iron head and reduce the life of the iron head. The higher the temperature, the shorter the service life of the iron head, every increase of 20℃, the life of the iron head is reduced by half, so, under the premise of meeting the welding, try to use low temperature welding (can choose low temperature tin line);

b. Don't push too hard

When welding, do not apply too much pressure, otherwise the iron head will be damaged and deformed. As long as the iron head can fully contact the solder joint, the heat can be transferred. In addition, choosing the right iron head can also help heat transfer.

c. Always keep the tip of the soldering iron tin

This can reduce the chance of oxidation of the iron head, making the iron head more durable. After use, the temperature of the iron head should be slightly reduced before adding the new solder, so that the tin layer has a better anti-oxidation effect.

d. Keep the soldering tip clean and immediately clean the oxide

If there is black oxide on the iron head, the iron head may not be tin, and it must be cleaned up immediately. When cleaning, first adjust the temperature of the iron head to about 250℃, and then clean the iron head with a cleaning sponge, and then tin. Repeat until the oxide is removed.

e. Choose a low-activity flux

Flux with high activity or corrosion will accelerate the corrosion of the iron head when heated, so low corrosion flux should be selected.

The flux used in the welding process, which is the most direct impact, the more halogen contained in the solder, the shorter the service life of the iron head.

1) washable welding wire, short life of soldering iron head; This flux is now widely used in factories,

2) Loose flavor welding wire, long life of the iron head; The type that used to be the most popular among repairmen

3) No cleaning type welding wire, the longest life of the iron head. This flux is the future,

Note: Do not use sandpaper or hard objects to clean the iron head. Do not scrape the iron head with a blade or metal object.

f. Put the welding iron on the welding iron frame

When the welding iron is not needed, the welding iron should be carefully placed on the appropriate welding iron frame to avoid damage caused by collision of the soldering iron head.

g. Select a suitable soldering tip

It is very important to choose the correct size and shape of the iron head. Choosing the right iron head can make the work more efficient and increase the durability of the iron head. Choosing the wrong iron head will affect the quality of welding.

The size of the iron head is directly related to the heat capacity. The larger the iron head is, the larger the heat capacity is, the smaller the iron head is, the smaller the heat capacity is. For continuous welding, the larger the iron head, the less the temperature drop. In addition, because of the high heat capacity of the large iron head, the welding can use a relatively low temperature, the iron head is not easy to oxidize, increase its life.

Short and thick iron head heat transfer is longer and young iron head faster, and more durable. Flat, blunt tips transfer more heat than sharp ones. Generally speaking, the size of the iron head does not affect the adjacent components for the standard. Welding efficiency can be improved by choosing geometric dimensions that are in full contact with the solder joint

5, when the iron head has residual solder, you can hold the iron and knock the iron head on the table quickly to shake off the excess solder (note: it is the hand knock on the workbench rather than the iron head or handle);

6. Turn off the power in time when the iron is not in use to avoid overheating affecting the service life of the iron.

7, should choose a special clean sponge. Heat in some sponges produces corrosive substances that damage the tip of the soldering iron. Dirty sponges containing metal particles, or sulfur sponges will damage the soldering tip. Sponge dirty need to be replaced in time, otherwise dirty sponge in the metal particles such as wear iron head.
